The Mission of the Whatcom Poetry Series is to inspire, broaden, and sustain a strong, interconnected literary community by providing opportunities to experience written and oral poetry.

About the Whatcom Poetry Series—The Whatcom Poetry Series (WPS) provides free public poetry readings featuring distinguished Pacific Northwest poets through The Poet As Art program. WPS Workshops offer opportunities for poets of all levels to acquire knowledge and competency in a variety of thought-provoking topics.

Participating poets have at least three of the following criteria: actively writing and publishing; involved in their literary communities; award-winning; and recognized for giving compelling performances of their work. The diverse audience experiences all forms of poetry, including a wide variety of concepts and inspirations contained within the poets' work. The WPS is one of the main points of contact for the exchange of ideas and information among individuals and groups within the Whatcom County poetry community.

The WPS has begun to record the readings and interviews of the poets in order to establish an archive of Pacific Northwest poets to be used as a resource now and in the future. Visit the WPS website's Archive pages to meet the Poets of the Pacific Northwest, and to read some of their poems.

The Whatcom Poetry Series is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
