WORKSHOP:
Simple Case Binding Made Easy

This hands-on workshop will focus on "case binding," the process of putting text blocks (the pages of a book or journal) between boards with cloth & paper covers. Sam has taught this course to kids, as well as adults, and he says it's one of the most useful techniques he knows. All tools and materials will be provided. Students should expect to carry away a finished book and the skills to continue on their own.

This workshop is taught by longtime northwest publisher/poet, Samuel Green. Sam and his printer wife, Sally, have published letterpressed books under the Brooding Heron Press logo for almost three decades, and before that they ran Jawbone Press. Sam is "the bookbinder in the family," having learned his initial skills at the bench under the tutelage of Don Guyot, of Colophon Binder, and then working on his own to bind thousands of books by this time.

TIME:Sunday, September 28, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
PLACE: 5581 Noon Road, Bellingham
COST: $65 per person
Workshop is limited to twelve participants
REGISTRATION: Contact James Bertolino at 360-398-7870 or jimbertolino@yahoo.com

WORKSHOP:
Sunday, April 6, 10-3
Egress Studio, 5581 Noon Road, Bellingham

Oliver de la Paz: The Poetic Obsession
The poetic obsession's purpose is to take you back to a life lived and translate the lived life into the imagined life. Our job, out of all this, will be simple. Our plan will be to find the secret door to our experience and open it. Perhaps it's a door you've passed everyday and were afraid to open. Perhaps it's an empty storefront you've seen as you've driven through your neighborhood. Yet you've imagined yourself opening that door. You've seen yourself taking a step and walking in and that image of yourself in relation to that door has obsessed you. We will not be looking for ways out, but for ways in.

The workshop is limited to 12 participants, and the four-hour session costs $65.
Contact James Bertolino at 360-398-7870 or jimbertolino@yahoo.com for registration and other information.

WORKSHOP:
Sunday, February 24, 10-3
Egress Studio, 5581 Noon Road, Bellingham

Paulann Petersen: Downstream — Writing With the Current
Join Paulann Petersen in a poetry workshop dedicated to generating new work. Using notable poems (including ones from William Stafford, Lisel Mueller, and Mark Strand) as springboards, we'll turn ourselves loose in the river of words, letting language carry us along in its current. We'll also linger in a couple of eddies, taking a look at two significant craft elements, trope and line integrity. The workshop goal is to have each participant leave with a trove of new material, and a new tool or two for revision. All levels of experience welcome.

The workshop is limited to 12 participants, and the four-hour session costs $65.
Contact James Bertolino at 360-398-7870 or jimbertolino@yahoo.com for registration and other information.
